Beautiful, traditional windows made with modern technology
Vertical sliding sash windows continue to hold a strong place in this modern day market, largely due to the decorative, elegant appearance accompanied by slim sight-lines as well as the large opening possibilities.
Traditionally, the lower sash slides vertically upwards and holds itself in any open position due to 2 counterbalance weights connected to the sash via a rope and pulley system. The housing and chambers to the outer frame are therefore larger than that of a “normal” casement window, and is often concealed into the fabric of the building. Because of this factor, extra care and consideration should be given in a replacement project as the level of “making good” works internally are quite significant..
To help with this, “Spiral balance” was introduced. A pre-tensioned spring suited to match the weight and size of the sash replaces the rope, pulley, weights, and the section profiles to the sides of the frames can be much reduced. This allows less “destructive” methods for replacing existing traditional sash windows. Get in touch for advice and more information.
The down side to spring balancing is that normally the plastic tubes that surround the springs are left visible from the inside when the window is closed. With white windows this is often not considered an issue. A brown tube can also be used for wooden windows. We are pleased to advise that we have engineered a variant of our sash window system to eliminate this by hiding the mechanism in a hidden chamber.
As always, products are made with engineered timber profiles for maximum stability and all timber is responsibly sourced from FSC certified sources.
A number of finishing options are available for sash windows to tie in with the many variants of existing UK profiles. Contact us for more information.

“Our house has been transformed thanks to Vinco!”
The whole experience with Vinco Windows group, from the initial site meeting and competitive quote, through to the efficient and prompt delivery and fitting of the window and door package was one of the smoothest we have ever encountered.
We will certainly be using them again and I would highly recommend this company for the supply and fitting of high quality doors and windows.

“A* from start to finish”
We were very happy with Matt and Vinco from the outset of the process through to fitting – our new windows look fab!!
We have fitted contemporary black Alu-clad windows to a two-hundred year old barn, so getting the mix right of old and new was essential, as was measuring and fitting plumb, square windows to historical, non-plumb window openings! Matt was instrumental in helping us to make sure we have the right windows for our needs and kept us updated throughout the manufacturing process. The fitters were extremely efficient and professional – we will definitely be talking to Vinco when we do our next conversion.
